The “hub” is the IR repeater , and the repeater is tucked away in an unobtrusive location. Its job is to grab the initial remote-control signal from the sensor and repeat it along. Just plug the Firestick into one of the HDMI IN ports (#7 on page 10 of the manual) and connect the microUSB cable from the Firestick to the included wall wart power supply . If all goes well, the device follows through on the command. This is much easier than trying to remotely control a PC and a stereo system. Either way you’d still have to manually turn on the stereo system, select the correct input source and set the main stereo system volume control. Your smartphone’s volume control would then be able to reduce the music volume, or increase it up to the level the stereo system is set at. The components receive the signals and act accordingly.
If so you could then turn on the front IR blaster and not use the emitters. The IR signal from HTM remotes/basestation is extremely strong and will work reliably at 30 feet and sometimes more . My MX-350, using IR only, works perfectly from the middle of the kitchen which is more than 20 feet away from the components. The answer is, I have seen older Logitech IR remotes send out long chains of macros and the user presses the button and then naturally puts the remote down. The remote continues sending out commands from the macro sequence and is no longer firing towards the components. If you're planning to hide the IR emitter and receiver (i.e. placing them not in view of the source or display), you can use the included IR cables to also transmit and receive the IR signals.
